Evernote serves as an amazing online filing system, while Asana is an excellent tool for project management, breaking projects down into tasks. You may have heard about Evernote or Asana, but are confused about which one you should pour your time and effort into, to help you get set up in your business. The one thing you do know is that you need to at least pick one and start using it, so that you don’t lose track of which notebook has that really good idea in it! The additional problem lies in the fact that you may not actually have time to stop and get your systems and process, or project set up, or to research which program might be better for you in the longer term.
Here’s a simplified summary of each one, and why it might work for you:
Evernote is a online/offline program that stores all kinds of information in Notes, Notebooks and Stacks. You can also write straight into it, like a word-processing document. It has the added features of being able to chat within Evernote, share notes and notebooks, set reminders, sync to your calendar and attach files. You can also clip from the web, your phone, and send emails to it.
There are three tiers of upgrades. Most people would be fine using the Basic or next upgrade.
Asana is classed as a project management tool that is perfect for solopreneurs as well as larger businesses managing larger scale projects. It’s beauty is that it allows you to manage tasks, share and assign tasks, whilst keeping all of the conversations and date specific content within the program. It can also link to your calendar, and you can attach files.
It’s a free tool that is only accessible online, but the app is great too. I
like it because I can keep all of my systems and processes in there, templates for working, and map out launches or courses within it, as well as manage my clients.
So, as you can see – they are actually quite different, and this is where if comes down to what your priorities are.

– to create Master lists, or large brain dumps of everything in your head so that you can create some order in it
– to manage a VA
– to collaborate with a colleague
– to manage your tasks more effectively
Then would recommend Asana.
Well – I use both! I think they both have their place!
I use Evernote to reduce my reliance on notebooks – because I had so many and was losing my notes and ideas. I use it also as a one stop shop – to clip from the internet, from email, notes, voice messages, course notes, PDF’s, client notes….
I use Asana for task management, systems, client management, projects – anything where there are steps.
